After general view the mankind will have used the majority of the worldwide fossil energy resources up to the Middle of the 21. Century. Studies done by the German Aerospace Center are showing that solarthermal power stations on an area of less than 0.3 per cent of the Mid East desert surface could produce sufficient energy for the rising demand of the Mediterranean States (MENA) as well as for the Total energy supply of Europe.

The MENA countries could remove their deserts to inexhaustible sources of clean energy and export clean power to the countries of Europe. For the humans in the Mid East and North Africa this would mean regenerating further jobs, rising incomes and a self-supply with electricity.  An important participant during the conversion of this vision or project is the “Trans Mediterranean Renewable Energy Cooperation” (TREC), an initiative of the Club of Rome.
