DIC revision 2-7 - draft

 

This competition is indeed being held in order to map the terrain and in order to animate a discussion leading to the Forum of Themes and Sites.
To date, 35 registrations - 13 General and 22 Students - were made, 21 paid.

Following comments, suggestions and discussions a revision to the competition, brought bellow, is about to be published on July 2nd.
 
 
It includes the following:
 
-       Integration of the 'Jury meeting' into the Forum of Themes and Sites
        i.e. the final round of juries will take place within the Forum.
 
-       Removal of competition streams as this is a competition between design ideas, and as the number of total entries probably doesn't justify the separation into two streams.
 
-       Revised schedule:
 
5-8:                         Publishing the list of Jury member candidates.
10-8:                       End of registration.
        Publishing of prize sums.
11+12-8:                Voting for Jury members, open to members of MidEastPan from August 11th
                               10 GMT to the following day, August 12th 18 GMT.
13-8:                       Deadline for online proposal pages submission.
        Announcement of the Jury composition.
20-8:                       Deadline for receiving submitted A1 boards
                                (posting address will be announced on July 13th).
                                Publishing of online project pages.
8+9-9:                    First round of juries - online voting for submitted proposal pages, from
                               September 8th 10 GMT to the following day, September 9th 18 GMT.
       Voting is open to participants in the competition, members of MidEastPan,
       and the selected Jury.
 
   
* If not otherwise specified, working time is 14:00 GMT.

Towards MidEastPan - Design Ideas Competition
Draft for revision 3, June 30th.
 
 
Background:
 
 
With the launch of MidEastPan and in order to animate a discussion towards the Forum of Themes and Sites in the coming September
a Design Ideas Competition regarding the Built Environment in the Middle East is being held.
 
Goals:
 
 
To invite, to map, to present and to form ideas, themes and sites towards the first session of MidEastPan.
 
The competition:
 
 
The competition is an open invitation for ideas and project proposals within the Built Environment in the Middle East.
Projects can be of any scale (communal, local, national, regional etc’) and to address any location and context (real or not).
 
The competition is open to individuals or teams.
There is no limitation on the number of entries per person / team.
 
Registration is through the competition website.
General registration fee: 44
Students registration fee: 28
 
* MidEastPan is a community project for the purpose of cultural, social and environmental gain. Registration fees fund the prizes and the on-going management and cultivation of MidEastPan. If you wish to participate in the competition but have difficulty with the registration fee, please do contact us.
 
 
 
 
The competition is anonymous. Following registration each entry is assigned with a unique ID code.
This ID code must be used strictly as articulated ahead.
Failure to maintain full anonymity will result in immediate and final disqualification from the competition.
 
Submitted Material:
 
 
1.      One A1 sheet, vertical in orientation (594x840 mm), posted to the Offices of MidEastPan.
 
-         The sheet must be mounted on a white board, similar in size and 3mm thick.
-         The sheet must include an accompanying text in English, in minimum font height of 6 mm.
-         The entry ID code (received after registration completion) must appear clearly, in black 1 cm
          high font, on the right side of an empty 2cm margin that must be left at the bottom of the sheet.
 
 
2.      An online project page on the competition website, containing:
 
-         Project name.
-         Five images, sized 800x600 pixels each, in JPG format (maximum file size per image: 1 MB).
-         An accompanying text in English, of maximum 1800 characters.
-         The themes addressed by the entry.
-         Translations of the accompanying text to other languages of the competition (optional).
 
 
There are no limitations regarding technique.
No identifying details are allowed within the submitted material.
Failure to maintain full anonymity will result in immediate and final disqualification from the competition.
 
Schedule:
 
 
10-2:                      Registration opening.
23-3:                      Deadline for submission of questions regarding the competition.
6-4:                        Publishing of answers to questions regarding the competition.
                               Launching of online project pages on the competition website.
4-5:                        Freezing of online project pages editing.
                               A team of judges will confirm no identifying details appear on the proposal
                               pages and will give comments and suggestions for each project.
20-5:                      Proposal pages on the website turn 'public' for viewing and commenting by
                               other participants in the competition and by other members of MidEastPan -
                               a possibility for discussion and cross fertilization.
22-6:                      Project pages return to ‘private’ mode, and their editing resumed.
5-8:                         Publishing the list of Jury member candidates.
10-8:                       End of registration.

Juries:
 
 
First round - online voting for proposal pages on the competition website:
September 8th 10 GMT to the following day, September 9th 18 GMT.
 
Participants in the competition, members of MidEastPan and the selected Jury will vote on the submitted online proposal pages.
Each voter will give 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 10, and 12 points to seven selected proposals of their choice.
These votes will be factored in the following manner: member of MidEastPan-1x; participant in the competition-3x; Jury memebrs-7x.
 
Eleven finalist entries will be thus selected.
 
 
 
Final round - integrated with the Forum of Themes and Sites Towards MidEastPan1.
September 30th – October 2nd.
 
Finalist entries will be presented.
Discussions will take place.
 
Participants in the Forum, members of MidEastPan and the selected Jury will vote.
Each voter will give 3, 5, 8, 10, and 12 points to five selected proposals of their choice.
These votes will be factored in the following manner: member of MidEastPan-1x; participant in the forum-3x; Jury memebrs-7x.
 
Winning entries will be announced.
 
A protocol of the juries will be kept and included in the competition's report, published on November 4th.
 
The composition of the jury will be published on August 13th.
List of Jury member candidates will be published on August 5th.
Voting for Jury members, open to members of MidEastPan will be held from August 11th 10 GMT to the following day, August 12th 18 GMT.

Prizes:
 
 
First prize:             20% of total registration fees.
Second prize:       12% of total registration fees.

* Prizes are based on registration fees. Final sums will be published with the closing of registration, on August 10th.
 
All submitted proposals will be published.
Finalist projects will be the basis for the Forum of Themes and Sites towards MidEastPan1 that will take place between September 30th to October 2nd 2009.
Prize winning projects will be widely exhibited and publicized.
Prize winners will participate in the juries of MidEastPan1.
 
 
MidEastPan is not responsible for the submitted material. Submitted material will not be returned.
MidEastPan will be the owner of the submitted material and is entitled to use, present, and publicize it.
