MidEastPan

MidEastPan is an independent Middle Eastern organisation which manages architectural competitions followed by their implementation. The competitions are held simultaneously, are based on common themes and rules, are anonymous and public, and are open to individuals and multi-disciplinary teams.

The objective of MidEastPan is to help towns, communities and developers to find and utilize innovative solutions for sustainable development and the appropriate transformation of places in the Middle East. Additional objectives are to connect and bring together designers, thinkers and entrepreneurs from the Middle East and to publicize and develop their ideas, and to build and sustain an independent Middle Eastern platform for communication, discussion and cooperation in the fields of Architecture and the Built Environment.

In Each MidEastPan session a series of sites accompanied by programme briefs is organised in themes and proposed to competitors. Teams may include members from various countries. The Forum of Themes and Sites, the Forum of Juries and the Forum of Results are held throughout the session. These meetings provide an opportunity for exposure, exchanges, debate and collaboration, and include conferences, exhibitions, workshops and tours, based on the topics and sites of the session, the analysis of architectural, urban, environmental and social experiences in the Middle East, as well as the architectural and planning conditions and policies of the city in which the Forum takes place.
Winning proposals are awarded, exhibited and published. The winning teams are helped by MidEastPan to secure commissions and contracts that will be implemented, leading to building projects.

MidEastPan has been modeled on and inspired by Europan, Drupal & Manifesta.

Why

Development processes in the built environment are characterized with little involvement or consideration of the affected communities; absence of transparency; and lack of communication and cooperation between agents.

MidEastPan fosters an alternative of cross-fertilization and transparent, intelligent, innovative and formfitting cooperation between towns and designers, communities and developers;
a real opportunity for appropriate, successful, and sustainable future developments.

on local, national, and Middle Eastern scales.
